The Fire Warden is an essential person to ensure that the organisation & systems are properly activated in a building to ensure the safe evacuation of all persons & to comply with legal requirements. Fire Wardens will normally be able to train staff on basic fire evacuation & first aid fire fighting needs.
This course includes an introduction to the relevant laws, how fires are started, the basic chemistry of how a fire can be extinguished, various methods of putting out fires. Dealing with escape routes, escape doors, flammability of wall coverings, fire doors and how to test them etc .How to facilitate the needs of injured, disabled, seriously ill such as in hospitals and those persons who cannot be released such as prisoners. Generally dealing with some complications that may arise in a fire.
Safety signs, lighting, alarms, detection equipment etc and the correct evacuation procedures. Duties of the Fire Warden and essential checks and procedures the fire Warden should undertake. Training requirements for staff, first aid fire fighting, what can and cannot be done, frequency of training. Maintenance checks and recommended frequencies for various types of checks.
Assessing the priorities of the Fire Warden and what can be used as fire fighting equipment. Convective, conductive and radiation transmissions of heat and the impact this has on the evacuation and action. Awareness of the requirements during building works which is useful if the building is altered or extended etc. Various fire fighting systems that can be used either portable or fixed. Automated smoke extraction systems. Procedures on how to escape in a smoke filled environment.
Dealing with panic and understanding the basics of some psychology to understand typical reactions that may occur when people evacuate and the action to take.
The course is supported by videos, individual and groups exercises, practical use of
fire extinguisher and a group project dealing with a variety of strategic events in a fire and planning the relevant action. You will be provided with comprehensive information and guidance in our Delegate Pack. This is an excellent course meeting our normal exacting standards.
