This theory based course is aimed at Supervisors, Managers and Safety Practitioners and provides training about different types of slings and lifting hardware, safe working loads and assessment, proper care and storage of equipment.

It includes practical inspection of slings and inspection requirements of slinging equipment, identification of defects, The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 and the criminal liability that may be incurred.

The course also includes various kinds of electric hoists including overhead gantry hoists, wire rope hoists, chain hoists, the safety requirements of hoists and the methodology in the selection of hoists.

The aims of the course is to equip the candidate with enough skills to ensure that lifting is being carried out safely and to be able to direct those involved and to provide underpinning knowledge for the development of risk assessments and safe working procedures and to be able to identify defective slings, select certain hoists and an understanding of the statutory obligations and is able to properly assess slinging operations in a variety of situations.

It includes The Health & Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996 as they apply, hand signals. The course is also supported with videos on slinging operations etc.
