The Law and the ACOP

The current code of practice provides for the suggested numbers for Fully qualified First Aiders, but this may be increased depending on the circumstances such as remoteness from medical services or to provide for emergency cover, shift work etc.

Shops and offices for example with over 50 employees should have at least one First Aider and that includes Libraries. Light engineering, assembly work, Food processing and warehousing are medium risk and there should be one First Aider for every 20 to 100 employed in each location. Construction, slaughter houses, chemical manufacturing, extensive work with dangerous machinery or sharp instruments is regarded as high risk and you must have one first Aider for every 5 to 50 employed in each location. These are just a few examples & the greater the number of employees, the greater the number of First Aiders. If you contact us we will assist in providing guidance on the likely number of qualified persons you will need.
