OccupationalHealth&Safety (NVQ 3,4 and 5) |
Distance Achievement (APA) for Experienced Practitioners
| Introduction |
| BCS College have been delivering NVQ courses since they were
first introduced into this Country and BCS College were also one of the first
organisations in the country to be accredited by City & Guilds to deliver the
Occupational Health & Safety Courses at Level 3,4 and 5
We have now developed a modular approach to training as well as distance achievement arrangements. This closes the barrier of distance and makes achievement possible with few attendances being necessary. In addition , you may be interested to know that the NVQ 4 has been accepted as the educational entry requirement for corporate membership of I.O.S.H. |
| Individual attention |
| Each person is dealt with as an individual case as, indeed, each person's situation, experience and previous training will vary. We will provide the guidance and support to identify the strengths and achievements to take advantage of achieved skills and work experience to contribute towards these credible NVQ awards. |
| Stage 1 |
At the start the candidate will come and see our Course Co-ordinator for a Counselling session which may last 2 to 3 hours. This session is a debrief and evaluation exercise to enable the basis of a structure plan to be considered. An action plan is then prepared providing the attendance dates and identifying the Assessor(s) and Internal Verifier. There may also be a domain knowledge development plan. In many cases little or no training is required for well experienced candidates. |
| Attendance |
| A considerable advantage with this process is a significant reduction in the amount of attendance required to achieve the qualification as this is being achieved from the evidence of the candidates experience. Each mentor meeting is for a period of about 3 hours for a total of four sessions for the NVQ 3 and five for the NVQ 4, under normal conditions. These sessions are typically every month but the interval is by agreement. |
| Flexibility |
The Action Plan is agreed mutually with the candidate and can be varied by agreement so dates can be changed, which is typical for busy executives in safety and essential for a course of this nature. Hence, how long it takes to acquire the qualification is to some extent, at the discretion of the candidate. The format has proved to be so successful that numerous large National Companies have sent their most senior safety staff on this programme as well as numerous Local Authorities. It is ideal country wide and even overseas. |
